If you live in Clayton County, this is where you apply — Clayton County Probate Court, in person. We cannot issue a licence and neither can any other dealer. Here is what the court asks for, and what it costs.
The Process
Applying in Clayton County

Start the application online
Georgia’s probate courts take applications through the Georgia Probate Court Manager site. Fill it in before you go anywhere — you will need the confirmation number when you arrive.

Go to the court in person
Clayton County Probate Court. You must live in Clayton County to apply here, and you will need a non-expired, government-issued photo ID showing your current Clayton County address. You must be at least 21.

Get fingerprinted
Where this happens depends on the court — some take prints on site, some send you elsewhere. There is a separate fee. We do not take fingerprints here, but we can point you at a local partner who does.

Wait for the background check
The court runs state and federal checks. Timing varies.

Collect or receive your licence
Some counties mail it; some have you come back. Several ask for a self-addressed stamped envelope at application time, so bring one.

The $51.75 fingerprinting fee is debit or credit card only. A processing fee applies to all card payments. Bring a self-addressed stamped envelope, or a $2.00 mailing fee is added.

What Clayton County does differently
Clayton is not a GAPS location and processes Clayton County residents only.
Bring your online confirmation number and a self-addressed stamped envelope along with your photo ID.
Renewals are encouraged by mail, and mailed applications must be signed in front of a notary public. You can renew from 90 days before your expiry date until 30 days after it — past that you have to apply as a new customer. Bring your current licence when you renew.
