Georgia Weapons Carry License

A Georgia Weapons Carry License lets you carry, and it makes buying simpler — a valid licence stands in for the background check at the counter. You apply through the probate court in your own county. We cannot issue one and neither can any other dealer. Here is how it goes.

The Process

Five steps, all of them at the courthouse

01

Start the application online

Georgia’s probate courts take applications through the Georgia Probate Court Manager site. Fill it in before you go anywhere — most counties will not process a walk-in that has not applied online first, and you will need the confirmation number when you arrive.

02

Go to your county’s probate court in person

It has to be the county you actually live in. Bring a non-expired, government-issued photo ID showing your current address in that county. You must be at least 21.

There is an exception for military personnel aged 18 to 20 — Fulton County publishes it on their own fee schedule as “Military Personnel (18+)”. If that is you, bring your service documentation and ask the court what they want to see.

03

Get fingerprinted

Where this happens depends on the county — some courts take prints on site, some send you elsewhere. There is a separate fee, and some counties take card only.

We do not take fingerprints here. We can point you at a local partner who does, and who we trust to get it right the first time.

04

Wait for the background check

The court runs state and federal checks. Timing varies by county.

05

Collect or receive your licence

Some counties mail it; some have you come back. Several ask you to bring a self-addressed stamped envelope at application time, so bring one.

Where You Live Decides

County by county

The details — fees, hours, whether they mail it — are set by each probate court, not by the state. We serve customers from several counties, so each one gets its own page with its own figures.

Every fee we publish carries the date we checked it, and the page prints that date next to the number. A dated figure that is slightly stale reads as honest; an undated one reads as wrong. If you are going to the courthouse with cash in hand, call the court first — they are the only authority on their own fees.
