The Rio Royal Star is a 20 gauge slug load built for hunters who want one accurate hard-hitting round for deer and similar game. Each 2-3/4″” shotshell drives a 7/8 oz lead slug at 1360 fps. That speed and mass deliver the deep penetration that puts game down cleanly at close and moderate range.
This Star Slug sits at the foundation of Rio’s slug lineup which runs through the Premium range of Royal Brenneke Royal MG and Royal Expansive. Rio builds the slug for optimal penetration and accuracy with controlled fragmentation once it reaches the target. The lead slug and plastic case give consistent ignition and a predictable point of impact the repeatability you want when a round has to count.
The Rio Royal Star is intended for compatible 20 gauge shotguns chambered for 2-3/4″” shells. Pattern or sight in the load with your specific barrel and choke setup before hunting.
Slug performance shifts with choke and barrel type so pattern a few rounds before you head afield and you will know your true effective range. The light 7/8 oz payload keeps recoil manageable in a small-frame 20 gauge which helps you stay steady and recover quickly for a follow-up shot. For a 2-3/4″” 20 gauge slug moving at 1360 fps this load carries the terminal energy needed for ethical shots on deer-sized game.
